Ventnor Boardwalk Reconstruction – Phase 1 Begins November 2025

Ventnor City has broken ground on its largest infrastructure project in decades — a $7.1 million full rebuild of the boardwalk stretching from Jackson Avenue to Cambridge Avenue

Funded through New Jersey’s Boardwalk Preservation Act, construction began November 3 and will continue through spring 2026. The new boardwalk will feature replaced decking, updated railing systems, modern lighting, and ADA-compliant access ramps at multiple beach entries.

Ventnor’s $7.1 million boardwalk reconstruction has begun. Here’s what residents should know about closures and timelines.

Project Phases and Impact

Phase 1 runs from Surrey Avenue to Cambridge Avenue and includes temporary closure of that beach zone until spring 2026. Phase 2 will follow in fall 2026, completing the northern portion from Jackson to Surrey. During construction, detours are in place along Ventnor Avenue and adjacent streets. City officials urge residents and visitors to plan accordingly when walking or cycling the Downbeach section.

Why the Rebuild Matters

The Ventnor boardwalk is a critical connector linking the city to Atlantic City and Margate. After years of storm wear and saltwater damage, sections had become unsafe for heavy use. The upgraded structure will enhance safety, accessibility, and long-term resilience against coastal erosion. When complete, residents will benefit from brighter lighting, wider walkways, and improved handrails designed for year-round use.

Resident Response and Local Business Outlook

Business owners along Ventnor Avenue expect short-term disruption but long-term benefits. Nearby cafés and bike shops are already anticipating a stronger summer season once the new boardwalk opens. Residents have expressed support at recent city meetings, viewing the project as an investment in Ventnor’s identity and property values.

Project Timeline and Future Phases

The city plans to complete Phase 1 by spring 2026 and resume northern work that fall. During the off-season, contractors will focus on lighting installation and ramp alignments. Full completion is scheduled before summer 2027. Updates will be posted on VentnorCity.org and at City Hall.
