Ventnor Boardwalk Reconstruction Moves to Suffolk–Jackson Section

A familiar stretch of Ventnor’s oceanfront is next in line for a rebuild.

Phase 2 of the city’s Boardwalk Reconstruction Project covers the section between Suffolk Avenue and Jackson Avenue. The city announced an October 12 start, with plans to replace the Boardwalk structure and add new ramps, railings, and lighting.

For residents who use the Boardwalk regularly, the work means temporary adjustments to familiar routes. For the longer term, it addresses both the structure beneath the boards and the ways people access and enjoy the oceanfront.

What’s Included in Phase 2?

The Suffolk-to-Jackson phase involves more than replacing worn decking. Planned work includes:

  • Demolition and replacement of the affected Boardwalk section.

  • Replacement of underlying structural materials.

  • New safety railings.

  • ADA-accessible ramps.

  • Upgraded lighting.

Some of the most substantial work will take place beneath the walking surface. Rebuilding those supports is part of maintaining a public space exposed to coastal weather and used throughout the year.

The ramps, railings, and lighting will also update features people encounter during everyday visits.

Plan Around Changes to Your Usual Route

A Boardwalk walk often follows a familiar pattern: enter at the same street, head in the same direction, and meet at a favorite spot. Construction can change that routine.

Before approaching the Suffolk-to-Jackson section, check current city notices and follow posted access instructions. Give yourself flexibility if your usual entrance or walking route is affected.

Stay outside fenced work areas and use the access points identified by the city. If you’re meeting friends or family, confirm a location everyone can reach.

Check Accessible Entrances Before Visiting

ADA-accessible ramps are part of the planned improvements, making access an important element of the rebuild.

During construction, however, anyone who relies on a particular ramp should confirm that it remains available before heading out. Temporary access arrangements may change as work progresses.

If you’re planning a visit with someone who has mobility needs, checking the entrance in advance can make the trip easier. As sections reopen, look for city confirmation of which access points are ready for use.

What Second Homeowners and Hosts Should Share

If you’ve been away from Ventnor, take a moment to review construction updates before your next visit. The route you used earlier in the season may have changed.

Homeowners expecting guests can help by sharing the location of the work and any current access instructions. This is particularly useful when visitors rely on saved directions or haven’t been to the property recently.

Keep arrival information current, and avoid promising a reopening date until the city confirms one.

When Will the Section Reopen?

A confirmed reopening date was not included in the project information.

Future municipal notices should provide updates on progress, access, and completion. Until then, plan around the affected section and check conditions close to your visit.

Ventnor’s Boardwalk is a place for daily exercise, conversation, and time beside the ocean. This phase puts attention into the structure and access features that support those everyday uses.
